How Did We Get Here?
It's fitting that I'm writing the first blog post for my new site ONE year after we discovered baby #3 was on the way. To say the last year has been a whirlwind is an understatement! Just a year ago we were in the process of renovating our NYC apartment due to black mold. We figured we might stay in NYC a few more years so put some effort into the remodel. We had to move all our furnishings out to redo all the floors so we planned a week away in Portugal then would come back to temp housing for a month while the remodel finished. Sadly before we left for Portugal, we had to put our sweet Rottie Bella down. Again, March was ROUGH! When we were almost done with the apartment renovation we found out that we were expecting baby #3. Deciding whether to move to the NYC metro area or moving back to Colorado was easy. Making it happen was a little harder. But it all came together as things that are meant to be do. We placed an offer on a house that we had not seen in person, flew in for inspection and decided to proceed with it. So in September we packed up our place (for the second time in less than six months) and moved to Boulder. So that's how we came to be Boulderites! Baby Madison was born November 22 and we have her to thank for being back in this wonderful part of the country.
Now onto the house. It has been a process. A process that started in September. This home had not been touched since the 70's. It was well taken care of but in dire need of an update. We fell in love with it because of the location (hiking out our back door), large yard and good structure. Yes, there was asbestos, yes the drainage ditch in the backyard would flood our home if we didn't completely renovate the yard and yes, there were signs of squirrels inhabiting the walls. The wiring was aluminum so that had to be redone and the copper pipes were too small to handle adequate flow so were replaced. Not much of the house is as it was. However, we are getting to the fun part of our remodel and are close to moving in. I have spent at least 2-3 days every week checking in on the contractors and updating and revising schedules so this could come together as quickly as possible. Our contractor and trades have all been amazing.
While I had planned to blog about this during the process, kids, work and life had other plans so this is the abbreviated version. This process has been so much fun for me; I look forward to sharing the after photos with you soon! If you have any questions, email or comment below.
